DCTV was founded in 1972 by Jon Alpert and Keiko Tsuno with the goal of using filmmaking as a tool to catalyze, inform, and embower communities. The Jon Alpert & Keiko Tsuno Collection is part of an effort to make public a treasure trove of original recordings for use by the documentary community. This collection contains a rich archive of field recordings and documentation that provides the only recorded witness to momentous historical events. The filmmakers' guerilla style of filmmaking gave them unprecendented on the ground access in countries around the world, including Nicaragua, Cuba, Cambodia, Vietnam, Angola, the Phillipines, and El Salvador in the 1970s and 1980s. There is also extensive and unique footage from New York and other parts of the United States. This catalog includes interviews with historical figures such as Fidel Castro, to documentation of daily life, to up-close recordings of countries in revolution.

This project was developed with the support of Blomberg Philanthropies' Digital Accelerator for Arts and Culture.
